Research in philosophy and theology, in the other sciences and in every branch of human culture is crucial to fulfill the mission of the Society of Jesus and to help the Church to understand the contemporary world and speak to it the word of salvation.

The intellectual apostolate offers an opportunity to serve the Kingdom of God. Within the broad spectrum of Catholic theology, serious research done with creativity and imagination has a special place because of its unique value to discern, illuminate and interpret the opportunities and problems of contemporary life and thus to respond to the broadest questions of the human mind and the deepest yearnings of the human heart.

Today the Jesuits of the Missouri Province together with their lay partners administer and teach in universities and high schools, preach in parishes, guide people in retreats, publish books and journals, and provide researchers with primary sources of Jesuit history.
